Polish gold reserves

temporary exhibition

The “Polish gold reserves” exhibition is an educational mobile presentation of the NBP Money Centre, which was displayed from September to November 2021 in several Polish cities: Warszawa, Poznań, Kraków, and Katowice.

The outdoor exhibition in the form of a coin with a diameter of 12 m and a height of 2.3 m presented the most important issues explaining the historical connections of gold with monetary systems in the past and the matters of accumulating gold reserves by modern central banks – including the Narodowy Bank Polski.

The content of the exhibition was divided into two parts: historical and contemporary. The historical part includes information about gold as an investment precious metal, an explanation of the monetary systems operating from the 19th to the 20th century and the history of Polish gold reserves, regarding the evacuation of the valuable metal from Bank Polski SA in 1939. The part devoted to contemporary issues concerned gold reserves at the Narodowy Bank Polski and the connection between the central bank’s metal resources with the financial security of the state. The exhibition boards also depicted unique photos from the 2019 operation of relocating part of the national reserves from the treasury of the Bank of England to the treasury of the Narodowy Bank Polski.

Through the network of the NBP regional branches, thanks to the mobile nature of the presentation, the above-mentioned matters could be popularized throughout the country.
